#1-Machu Picchu Was Never A Stranger To Earthquakes
The stones in the majority of buildings across the Incan Empire never used mortar. They have been cut so precisely that even a credit card can’t pass through with ease. Apart from the apparent beauty, there are also a number of benefits to this engineering.
Cusco and Lima both cities have been leveled by earthquakes and Machu Picchu itself is built upon two fault lines. When earthquakes hit, the stones in the infrastructure seem like they are dancing in their spot. They bounce and fall back in the same place. If this approach to construction hadn’t been used, Machu Picchu would have been destroyed ages ago.
#2-Most Of The Impressive History Is Invisible
Even though Machu Picchu is recognized for its marvelous construction and exceptionally professional civil engineering. The projects were technically ahead of their time as well.
The site visible to tourists today had to be sculpted between two mountains by moving earth to create the landscape.
According to most engineers, more than half of the construction in Machu Picchu was done underground. As the region receives a whopping amount of rain, the underground construction had to make up for drainage and to protect deep building foundations.

The site remains uncluttered for most parts of the year.
